Do you want to be part of establishing a new country programme? NRC is looking for an experienced Country Director for a new country programme in Cameroon.
NRC is seeking to expand our programmes in the Lake Chad Basin beyond our current presence in Nigeria. Assessments in the North and East of Cameroon are currently being conducted and we expect to start operations in the country soon.
The purpose of the Country Director position is to establish a fully functional country operation. This includes relevant programmes, programme implementation, robust support functions and an adequate organisational set-up.
Job description Establish a country strategy and Plan of Action for NRC in Cameroon based on the assessments done.
Establish a robust country operation structure according to NRC guidelines
Ensure that NRC Cameroon is set up according to local legal requirements, including ensuring the registration process is complete.
Responsible for workforce planning for NRC Cameroon.
Hiring of relevant and competent staff to enable a sufficient and robust support structure
Hiring of relevant and competent staff to develop and implement programme activities
Analyse the political and humanitarian context and make the NRC programme relevant to the context in Cameroon and the Region
Responsible for all NRC advocacy efforts in the country/region and ensure that contributions are made to NRC global advocacy efforts
Responsible for securing funding for the country programme
The Country Director reports to the Head of Region
Qualifications Minimum 5 years experience from working as a Senior Manager/Country Director in humanitarian/recovery context
Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented/proven results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in French and English, both written and verbal
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge of the context in Cameroon and the region
Experience from advocacy work
Experience from start-up
Personal qualities Strategic thinking
Handling insecure environments
Empowering and building trust
Influencing
A good sense of humour is an asset
